First Edition. Octavo, original stamped green cloth, profusely illustrated throughout with photographs, in wraparound illustrated dustjacket. Sixty-five illustrations selected from the author's collection of photographs. Chick Evans was a star amateur golfer of the 1910s and 1920s, after being introduced to the game as a caddie at the age of eight in Chicago. He is known for being the first person to win the U. S. Open and the U. S. Amateur in the same year. Chapters include "Boyhood Days," "About Caddies," "In Fast Company at Sixteen," "Winning the Double Crown," "Shots and How to Use Them," "Clubs and How to Use Them," among others. This copy with Erle Stanley Gardner's ownership signature and date '4/3/24' at front endpaper. Gardner was an avid sportsman and this book dates back to when he was still just a lawyer and not the famous mystery author. A scarce book to be found in original illustrated jacket and with a great provenance to boot. Near Fine in Good only dustjacket lacking top quarter of rear panel. Item #23439
