Octavo, original purple cloth over boards, blind stamped floral pattern on front cover, decorated in gilt and with pasted color illustrated paper oval, deckled edge, color decorated dust jacket, color plate frontispiece, two additional color plates. Novella by John Philip Sousa, composer of military marches, about a violinist who makes a deal with the devil for a violin with five strings, the fifth of which causes the player's death if played. Near Fine in Good dust jacket, square-inch sized chip at lower front panel, 1/2 inch chip at top spine end, further chipping at edges, stain on rear panel, foxing, shelf wear. Item #43067
