First Edition Thus, "Special Edition in paper-covers May 1904". Small octavo, Original decorative gray wrappers. Extremely scarce wrappers printing of Wister's most famous novel and perhaps the Western genres' most recognizable title. This copy with 'The American News Company' statement at lower front wrap and Macmillan Company statement at title and copyright page. Presumably this wrappers edition was published by American News in conjunction with Macmillan for mutual benefit. Very Good to Near Fine, with small nick to lower spine end and lower front corner.
