First Edition. Hubin listed mystery in which Allison writes in the preface: "This book was written at the rate of a chapter a day during two return voyages from Buenos Ayres to England, and in the circumstances the subject matter of it is not elaborately treated but the main point as to the want of fuller description of foals in the General Stud Book and - later on - in Export Certificates is, I hope, made perfectly clear, especially in the light of the Pentecost case, full and authentic details of which are given in an Appendix. A very large amount of evidence bearing on this point could be given, but I feel sure the Jockey Club Stewards will remedy the trouble when once they realise its existence, and I, therefore, will say no more, but commit my somewhat crude book to the mercies of its readers". Card affixed to front paste-down, dated Christmas 1910, "with the author's compliments, W. Allison." Very Good, modest wear.
