The Sea Hawk. Rafael SABATINI.

The Sea Hawk. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., 1923.

First Houghton Mifflin Edition, originally published by Lippincott in 1915. Harold Brett dustjacket art and frontis. One of three in Sabatini’s series of pirate novels, this one set in 1588-1594, involving a Cornish sea-farer villanously betrayed by his half-brother, who joins a group of Barbary pirates when they rescue him from a slave galley and becomes known as the Sea Hawk. Very Scarce. Basis for the 1924 silent black and white Frank Lloyd Production, directed by Frank Lloyd and starring Milton Sills, Enid Bennett, and Lloyd Hughes. A 1940 Warner Brother’s film of the same name starring Errol Flynn uses Sabatini’s name but a completely different plot. Near Fine in Very Good dustjacket, few shallow edge chips, less than dime sized chip at lower spine end, inch closed tear at lower front panel.
