First single volume American edition. Victor Hugo’s classic five-part novel (Fantine, Cosette, Marius, Saint Denis, Jean Valjean) originally published in 1862, here complete in one volume. Three quarter brown leather over marbled boards, with black leather spine label and gilt stamping to spine. Double columns. Good, soiling and rubbing to covers and to spine causing chipping of the spine leather, especially to spine head. Bookplate to front pastedown, ink inscription to title page. Light foxing throughout with some age toning to initial and final pages, but otherwise clean, with clean binding and hinges.
