An important 20th Century literary landmark in Canadian prose, Hemon's unglorified novel of French Canadian farmers is a harsh, realistic story of pioneer life in Quebec, and profoundly influenced subsequent Canadian authors. This copy with four line ink inscription at front free endpaper dated 1931 and signed by Eva Bouchard and beneath it in quotations "Maria Chapdelaine". A pencil note below states, "Based on the life of Eva Bouchard- Signed." Very uncommon association copy. Very Good, top spine end material worn down to page block, in Good dustjacket, spine ends chipped, some edge chipping to rear panel, narrow chipping along lower front flap edge.
