First Edition. African American author’s only novel, the sometimes tragic story of an interracial marriage between a black man and a white woman loosely based on his own life. Jones was born in South Carolina, attended Ohio State and Yale University and later graduating from Brown University. He married his college sweetheart, a sculptor and Canadian immigrant and they had two children. Jones wrote the words for Boston's official song, "Dear Old Boston" and was acclaimed as Boston's poet laureate. Near Fine with pencil ownership inscription to front free endpaper, in a Very Good dustjacket but for photographic portrait of author cut from front flap (presumably to keep the author's race from effecting sales), few short closed tears including two, inch-plus tears to spine ends, shallow chipping.
