First Edition. Scarce. Collection of lyrical songs and poems by Harvard-educated American writer, who practiced law for the early part of his life until his essays attracted attention. His work was known for its “originality and felicity of expression,” and many critics considered him one of the top essayists of his time. Near Fine but for number stamped to rear inside cover, small ink scribbled to top corner of front free endpaper, light water staining to corners of endpapers, in a Nearly Very Good dustjacket, moderately water stained mostly to edges and spine, few red stains to rear panel and top of front panel, half inch chipping or less to edges, spine with half inch loss to ends and mid spine, rear spine edge well worn.
