First Photoplay Edition, illustrated with scenes from the popular 1930 black and white talking film produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, starring John Gilbert, Wallace Beery, Jim Tully and Leila Hyamsof and directed by Sam Wood. Mach Tey dustjacket art. One of the few talkie's to feature John Gilbert (frontis still), whose career would shortly meet its demise. Very scarce photoplay. Nautical adventure novel of a sailor who travels the world where "voyage follows voyage, girl succeeds girl, sunset follows storm, skippers change, ships change, and Jack Lassan grows to manhood... a vision of dark eyes under a mantilla and above a fan, looking over a balcony in Rio; a golden god of a swimmer reared in the surf at Hawaii; a white-haired negro swinging a machete in the sugar cane...". Near Fine in Very Good dustjacket, shallow chipping to top spine and top rear panel, few centimeter chip at mid-front spine edge, front panel illustration perhaps lightly faded.
