First Edition. F. R. Gruger and Arthur W. Brown dustjacket art and illustrations. Humorous Jazz Age themed novel of a young World War One veteran and his letters home to his wife and baby. Nice association copy, inscribed and signed by Witwer to famous movie director Malcolm St. Clair (Mal St. Clair). St. Clair directly nearly 100 films, the most profitable perhaps with Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton in the 1920's. One of his notable non-comedic efforts was the Philo Vance mystery The Canary Murder Case (1929), which starred William Powell, Jean Arthur and Lupe Velez, and which won critical plaudits for the director. Very Good in Very Good but modestly edge chipped dustjacket.
