First Edition. Octavo, original green cloth, gilt lettering at spine, gilt top page edge. From the introduction: "Whatever may be the verdict of history upon the grade of Mr. Wilson's statesmanship of this we may be sure even today he is a successful politician. He succeeds in performing at the same time the difficult exploit of keeping his ear to the ground. With a few notable exceptions he has spoken the convictions of that average man in whom Whitman saw the salvation of America and at last the world. In selecting these poems while I have sought always to emphasize those giving most vivid expression to the ideas with which the consciousness of the world today is burning I have tried to keep the organism of Leaves of Grass intact." Very scarce in original dustjacket. Near Fine bright copy in Very Good dustjacket, chipped at top spine area, some soiling to white panels, few closed tears.
