500 cameo portraits reproduced in this commemorative book compiled by Peckham in the late 1860's. Peckham curated photos of prominent citizens of Worcester Massachusetts (both past and present). As he explains in his forward, he gathered existing photos of those that were already deceased by the time he initiated his project. Living subjects sat for new portraits with photographers Claflin in Worcester, or Mr. Black in Boston; or, if the subject was in another part of the country, they were asked to send a current photo. The reproductions used in the book are photos of those original photos. An index at the beginning of the book lists the names and page numbers of all subjects. Names appear under each portrait. All subjects are white males.
