10” x 14” Commercially produced, “wood plank” covers held together with ring-clasps (in primary colors). 36 black and white snapshots, each measuring 2 1⁄2” x 3 1⁄2”; plus newspaper clippings, notes, lists, American Red Cross Swimming Cards, programs, camp promotion and other ephemera of camp life in the summer of 1939. The covers of the scrapbook were manufactured by Hamilton O. Cornwall & Co. / Cornwall Wood Products, NYC (5th Ave). Inside, a cover sheet in heavy card stock. Subsequent leaves in medium weight craft paper. 14 leaves total. Memorabilia mounted only on one side of leaves (recto); items are affixed with mounting corners. The scrapbook was compiled by Jacqueline Lois Trask when she was ten years old. It records her time at Camp Makaria (Maine) in the summer of 1939. Meticulously notated in a fine printed hand with names of fellow campers (along with each girl’s hometown), locations, and activities. The scrapbook continues after Jackie leaves camp and accompanies her mother (Bertha Johnson Trask) on a trip to Lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga, and includes photographs and tourist mementos from Fort Ticonderoga. Jacqueline Lois Trask was born April 29, 1929 in a private maternity hospital in West Haven. The daughter of Bertha C. Johnson and Lyman M. Trask; Jackie and raised in Woodbridge and New Haven. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech from Russell Sage College and later attended the New York Academy of Interior Design. Trask became an interior designer and was also a writer at the New Haven Register. She died in 2014.
