Cocktail Digest (From Private Notes), [Encyclopedia and Guide for Home and Bar]

Cocktail Digest (From Private Notes), [Encyclopedia and Guide for Home and Bar]. New York: Cocktail and Wine Digest, Inc., (1944).

Presumed Second Edition (with same title page as First Edition published a year earlier, but with the new preface that would go on to be published in the many subsequent editions and with 126 numbered pages, the First Edition having 95 numbered pages and later editions with 142). Small octavo (6 by 4 1/2 inches), green wrappers stamped in silver, 128 pages. Introduction states: "The professional barman has many obligations to the public. Courtesy, cleanliness, restrictions on smoking, drinking, etc. these you all know about. One obligation, however, of equal importance, many of you tend to forget: that a drink should be the same all over the country. Clearly what is needed is some standard for drink-mixing, some way to prepare drinks in similar fashion from state to state and region to region." Book based on the private notes of Oscar Haimo, Maitre de Bar - Hotel Pierre and President of the International Bar Manager's Association. A very scarce printing of this quintessential title. Very Good, some modest shelf wear, previous owner signature at top title page, quarter sized stain at lower spine area, some pages with matching stain at lower inside corner.

Price: $350.00
