Item #40566 The Blue Angel. Heinrich MANN.
The Blue Angel
The Blue Angel

The Blue Angel. London: Readers Library Publishing Co, [1930].

First English Edition and First Photoplay Edition (and first to use the title The Blue Angel, after the German Edition of 1905, titled Professor Unrat, and preceding the 1932 Jarrolds printing). Plug for the Ufa Wardour Picture [Josef von Sternberg direction] starring Emil Jannings and a young Marlene Dietrich at title page and rear jacket panel (no stills issued in this printing). Dietrich was catapulted to stardom by this film. The novel pokes fun at the hypocrisy of German bourgeois society and features Professor Mud, who discovers that his pupils are hanging around a club called The Blue Angel and are ardent admirers of a, “actress woman” called Rosa Frölich. An extremely scarce edition. Very Good but for lower spine end material chipped to text block, in Very Good dustjacket, centimeter deep chipping to both top and lower spine ends.

Price: $2,000.00
