First Edition. Contemporary novel from a husband's point of view and described by the dustjacket copy as "a brilliant study of a man's effort to understand himself while his mind, disturbed by passing events, presents him with nothing but a distorted image, as in a concave mirror." Maxwell originally wanted to be an artist and when that career did not develop he spent a number of years without occupation. During the First World War he served as a captain in the Royal Fusileirs. He has five film credits to his name, including The Devil's Garden, which starred Lionel Barrymore. Near Fine in Very Good plus dustjacket, some light darkening, light rubbing and few nicks at spine ends, a diamond shape clipped out from spine where the price was printed.
