First Edition. Erick Berry dustjacket art and illustrations. Octavo, original cloth and illustrated dustjacket. Forward by Merian C. Cooper, who produced and co-directed the black and white silent film titled 'Chang' in 1927. Cooper does not mention the film in his forward and the plot lines appear to differ somewhat, though both the Cooper film and Morse novel take place in the Siam jungle and include elephants as main protagonists. Likely a novelization of sorts of Cooper's (Famous Players-Lasky Corporation) production, one of only three films to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Unique and Artistic Picture. Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack's reckless enthusiasm and heedlessness of danger during the making of the film informed the character of Carl Denham in their subsequent work, King Kong (1933). Very scarce title. Cooper only published a few titles in his life time. Near Fine in nearly Very Good dustjacket, few light stains to front panel, shallow chips and wear at edges, dime sized chip at top front panel and top spine end. Item #26181
