Locke was a staple in turn of the century English literature and his eccentric condemnation of teaching mathematics was well known in England. Before finding success with his most famous novel, The Beloved Vagabond, Locke served as the secretary for the Royal Institute of British Architects and during the First World War headed the committee of the Society of Authors, which dealt with the relief of impoverished literary men. Near Fine in Very Good plus dustjacket, faint "popular copyright" stamped at spine, some minor soiling to white panels.
