Contains the three earliest contributions by Horatio Alger to a periodical, and his first published works. "Voices of the Past" (Poem), pp. 278 of Vol. II (June 1849); "Chivalry", a 2-page article p. 123 of Volume II, (March 1849) and "Cervantes", a page article p.241 (November, 1849). Very Good volume, outer hinges cracked, front free end papers and title page shaken, text generally clean and free of staining.
