Item #14547 My Battles With Vice. Virginia BROOKS.

My Battles With Vice. New York: Macaulay Co., 1915.

First Edition. Expose of Chicago's trade in white slaves, prostitution and the political corruption that keeps the machine intact. Wrap around photographically produced dustjacket art of a woman trying to protect a prostrated woman from a devious looking man. The scene is possibly from the film version of Brooks' short story, Reformation, which had a similar theme and was produced as a silent film in 1915. Or, the cover depiction may be taken from some kind of contemporary stage presentation of the work. Very Good, some nicking to cloth at spine ends, in Good - Very Good dustjacket, some modest fading to colors, lower front panel with small chips, spine ends with centimeter deep chipping.
