First Edition. Henry Raleigh dustjacket art and illustrations. Jazz Age novel combating the notion that young people of today "are all flappers and shifters, or young pagans concerned only with the gratification of their own senses and desires". This copy with ownership signature, address and date (May 28, 1943) of popular television writer, Pvt. Max Wilk at front free endpaper. During World War Two, Wilk served in the Army Air Force Motion Picture Unit, whose captain was Ronald Reagan. He wrote plays (including "Small Wonder" with George Axelrod) and was a founding member of the 52nd Street Players group. His original play "Cloud 7" ran briefly on Broadway in 1958. Good tight copy slightly cocked, some soiling to cloth in Very Good dustjacket, few small edge chips, yellowish stain affecting lower front panel.
