First Edition."he faithfully records in a quaint small boy way his father's attitude toward the Mexican War and various political questions of the day. Later we hear the talk of McKinley, of John Sherman, then an old man, of Penrose and Mr. Lodge, young Senators then... of his relations with his fiery and impetuous junior, Theodore Roosevelt". This copy with folded typed letter signed by Long laid in to "E. H. Goss" of Melrose, Massachusetts. Letter thanks Goss for his letter, reminisces of their time in the Mass. House of Representatives together, and says he's including a steel engraving "which I think is just the thing you want to paste in the book you speak of". The letter is dated 1898, so not the engraving for this book. Scarce thus. Near Fine in Very Good dustjacket, some shallow edge chips, scotch tape to exterior top spine end and front flap corner.
