First Edition. Very scarce novel by this English civil servant serving in India (and written in the style of an Indian story teller) and writing under a pseudonym. 'They are a brave race, the English, but lacking in intelligence. From the early moment when Hassan chooses for himself the career of a dacoit the story moves with unfailing neatness. The account of his problems in finding a wife is subtly told, while his journeyings with Maryam, and their misadventures are most entertaining.'
