Drinks as They Are Mixed: A Manual of Quick Reference Containing Upward of 300 Recipes for Mixing and Serving Drinks. Chicago: Joe Grein and J. Pahls, Inc, (1904).

Early Edition, with copyright date of 1904 by F. J. Drake and Co. (the original publishers) but with Grein and Pahls title page and cover (who presumably bought the rights from Drake). Original cloth covered boards, 6 inches by 3 inches. "An Invaluable Companion to all who are Engaged in the Liquor Business. Including Toasts and Sentiments for all Occasions." Illustrated. Lowe, who may have bar tended at the Hoffman House states in the preface that his hair is "whitened by the shaved ice and powdered sugar of many a sweltering summer". Lowe is presumed to have created the variant of the Gibson Cocktail in which bitters are replaced by three dashes of Angostura, with half the cognac and an addition of barspoon of gum. Very scarce printing.

Price: $1,500.00
