Cocktails Mixed Drinks as Served at the Cafe-Bar Hotel Martinique. New York: Hotel Martinique, 1939.
Seventh Edition (Published in January 1939). Original red illustrated wrappers (designed by 'Doc R'), 4 1/2" by 3", 32 pages. The title page states that the Hotel Martinique was "one block from the Pennsylvania Station then 10 minutes by Long Island Railroad direct to The World's Fair." The centerfold of the booklet is a great looking map, titled "To the World's Fair by Automobile - How to Reach the World's Fair from the Hotel Martinique." Cocktail recipes are Mamie Taylor, The Martinique, The Harvard Cocktail, The Stone Fence, The Princeton Cocktail, Harold Payne Whitney, The Irish Rose, The Bamboo, Mary Pickford Cocktail, Louis XV Cocktail, etc. The introduction states: "While many of the old drinks made famous by these well-known gentlemen are still popular at the new Cafe-Bar Martinique, along with them have sprung up a new set of cocktails, the names of which may sound strange to the old-timers but which are nevertheless as pleasing to the palate. It is the purpose of this book to list many of the old as well as the new favorites, including those old standbys—the Martini and the Manhattan. For the benefit of those who wish to recall old favorites, or to experiment with the new, the proportions are listed by jiggers, ponys and dashes." An uncommon item. Very Good, modest shelf wear.
